We have been working a lot of hours lately on the project so we took off a few hours on Saturday to boat out to an island about 20 km Southwest of Malumghat. We grabbed the campus speed boat and headed out on the river with another young couple (medical students) who are here working at the hospital for about a month. We had originally planned to go to Cox's Bazar but with the recent protests and violence in Bangladesh ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-21639831 ), we decided to stay off the roads (which we found out later was a good very thing). We had a blast knee boarding, boating, checking out the water buffalo and running through mud up to our knees while visiting the island and salt flats along the way. We received some interested stares and waves and had a laugh when a local man ran out onto the river bank with a cell phone to get a picture of the knee boarding action.
